If you want to recognize a local person for volunteer or community service work, two awards programs are looking for nominations.
The BC Community Achievement Awards will accept nominations until Jan. 20, and honours both volunteers and community service workers. Three letters of support, and a short biography are needed to apply.
Past winners include Haida Gwaii's Lucille Bell, Kris Olsen, and Germain Vigneault.

Canada’s Volunteer Awards recognizes volunteers as well as business, community, and non-profit leaders, and is open until Feb. 3. Two letters of support are needed, and nominees for theEmerging Leader category must be between 18 and 30 years old.
