The British Columbia Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has alerted the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) regarding an incident in Tsay Keh Dene, located north of Prince George.
The incident involves the discovery of two deceased individuals and the shooting of one man by police
In an April 10 statement, the police said they responded to a report of shots fired in a residence on April 9, where they found multiple people injured.
Around 10:30 p.m., Tsay Keh Dene RCMP officers located a man with a firearm who fled to another nearby home.
The police established a containment and requested additional support from the North District Critical Incident Program. Negotiations commenced at approximately 12:20 a.m. on April 10, and continued for several hours.
After negotiations deteriorated, the North District Emergency Response Team (ERT) and supporting units arrived at around 5:40 a.m. The situation escalated, leading the ERT to deploy a chemical irritant into the residence.
The man emerged from the house armed, prompting officers to use an ‘extended range impact munition’ ( a less lethal weapon that uses 40mm low velocity sponge rounds) and firearms, injuring him.
First aid was administered before he was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
In the original residence, two individuals were found deceased, prompting an investigation by BC RCMP North District Major Crime.
The IIO BC is probing the actions of the police in this incident.
