All island emergency plan in the works

A series of workshops on tsunamis and earthquakes will soon be held in several communities on-island, followed by an all day meeting aimed at developing an all island emergency plan.
"We want to get people together with what they have in place," regional district administrator Janet Beil told the Queen Charlotte management committee when it met Wednesday night (Jan. 14.) "Our concern is if we have the wheel in place, not to re-invent it," Ms Beil said.
The initiative got rolling after the disasterous Christmas Eve storm, when officials realised there is no single, integrated plan for the islands, even though individual communities may have emergency plans.
The all-day workshop, involving all communities, is scheduled for Thursday February 12 in Queen Charlotte, at the management committee office.
