American charter yachts unpopular

Large American yachts operating as sports fishing lodges at the north end of the islands are not popular with the QCI Chamber of Commerce.
Gerry Stevens of Gerry's Fishing Charters in Masset said the yacht operators say they are just bringing in family and friends to get around Canadian law, but that's not the case.
"They are chartering. Charging people to take them fishing. They are running a business," Mr. Stevens told the meeting June 10. "In Canada here we have something called Canada Customs, or we used to anyway," he said.
The chamber deided to write a letter to the coast guard as well as to all candidates in the coming federal election to complain about the yachts.
