Beware mail scam

Islanders should be on the look-out for a mail scam involving a refugee from Sierra Leone, says Kimberly Wylie of the Masset RCMP.
A Masset resident recently received a letter from Owo Komes, who writes that he and his mother and younger brother are refugees now living in Ghana.
According to the letter-writer, his father, who was a chief of their diamond-rich village, died leaving behind a significant sum in US dollars in a bank account.
Mr. Komos is seeking assistance in getting the money transferred abroad for investment purposes.
The resident who received the letter brought it to the attention of the RCMP.
"It is important to let members of our community know that these letters are a scam and not to reply to ANY of them," says Ms Wylie.
