Camping season gets off to early start

The municipal campground in Port Clements will be opening a little earlier than usual this year, after council gave the green light to a request from a tree planting contractor.
The contractor had asked if the Sunset Park campground at the west end of town could be opened to allow one trailer to stay there for the next six weeks.
Council members agreed, although some said it appears there is a housing shortage in town and there may be other requests to use the campground.
The village charges $90 per week for campground stays, so the early opening will bring some extra revenue to the town. However, council members said they will be keeping an eye on electricity use at the site, and that anything above a "reasonable" amount will be charged back to the user.
