Community involvement awards banquet a success

Submitted by Christina Engel, Community Advisor, DFO- Every year, Fisheries & Oceans Canada sponsors an awards banquet that honours the amazing efforts of local aquatic stewards on the islands. This year, the Community Involvement Program presented a number of awards to a number of dedicated people. Josina Davis, Barry Wijdeven, and Jason Shafto received 4 year awards, Vince Kluke received and award for contributing to Canada's Pacific Salmon resources since 1996, the Northern Trollers Association and the Lawn Hill Residents Group both were acknowledged for 20 years of contribution and Helmer Smith and the Old Massett Village Council were each presented with 25 year awards.
On behalf of Fisheries & Oceans Canada, the Community Involvement Program wishes to express a deep, heart-felt thank you and howa to everyone involved with aquatic activities on the islands and to thank everyone for a fun-filled evening of celebration.
