Several Port Clements residents and council members gathered at Tuesday night’s council meeting to remember former mayor Joan Ann Allen, who died April 17 in Calgary. Ms Allen was elected mayor in late 1999 and served a three-year term until 2002. Past council members Wendy Quinn and Mary Standbridge, who worked with Ms Allen, shared memories of a strong personality who had a big vision for Port Clements and accomplished a lot during her time in office. Ron and Ivy Haralson and Urs Thomas also spoke about Ms Allen, and mayor Wally Cheer extended condolences on behalf of the entire village to Ms Allen’s son Mike Allen.
