Council of the Haida Nation president Guujaaw and the old-growth forests of Haida Gwaii are featured on the front of this year’s Christmas card from Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson.
The cards are being sent out this week to thousands of people across the country, from Prime Minister Jean Chretien to ordinary Canadians.
Ms Clarkson visited the islands in September, and the photos on the card were taken during that visit. The cover features Guujaaw talking with Ms Clarkson and her husband John Ralston Saul on the west coast. On the back is a picture of Ms Clarkson and Mr. Saul paddling in Loo Taas in Skidegate Inlet.
Facsimilies of the card can be seen in the Observer on Thursday.
