Haida won't take part in oil panel

The Council of the Haida Nation will have no formal participation in the federal offshore oil and gas process, holding planning sessions on the islands January 22..
"Panel discussions are not a place for dialogue," said CHN president Guujaaw, "We're not going to bother with it."
The federal review panel is holding planning sessions in Masset this afternoon and in Queen Charlotte tonight.
The review panel itself expects to hold hearings on the islands in the spring.
Guujaaw also says the Haida and other coastal First Nations were involved in discussions last year about participating in the panel's consultations, but even as those discussions were continuing, Ottawa announced the mandate of the panel as well as its members. "There will be no formal participation," he said.
