Masset to celebrate 50th in May

The village of Masset will be marking its 50th anniversary this year, and is planning to bury a time capsule as part of the celebrations.At Monday night's council meeting (Jan. 24), councillor Ed Woode said the time capsule could contain Masset-specific items like menus from local restaurants, airline schedules, meeting minutes and a copy of the Observer.Masset was the first village on the islands to become a municipality, incorporating in May 1961. Mr. Woode said the village will be celebrating the 50th anniversary in conjunction with the annual Harbour Days event on the May long weekend.Mayor Barry Pages said the Harbour Days committee will be holding its first meeting of the year this week to start planning for the extra-special occasion.
