New Haida immersion starts in January

Kindergarten students at Tahayghen elementary will start an innovative Haida immersion program in January, district superintendent Angus Wilson told trustees at a school board meeting Dec. 13.Trustees approved the partial immersion program several months ago. Mr. Wilson reported that the district has now hired a part-time, Haida-speaking teacher who will start working next month, spending two afternoons a week with the kindergarten class."This is just great news," said Masset trustee Sharon Matthews. "I'm very excited about it, what it means. These little children will be there with a teacher, speaking Haida."
