North Area trustee election cancelled

The North Area trustee election was called off earlier this week after one of the two candidates withdrew.Incumbent trustee Sharon Matthews, who has represented the area since 2001, withdrew her name Tuesday, just before the advance poll. That means candidate Harmony Williams will be acclaimed to the position.Three other school trustees have already been acclaimed, with the only election for school board taking place in the South Area (Queen Charlotte, Sandspit and Miller Creek). The entire Queen Charlotte village council has also been acclaimed, as well as the mayor of Masset, Andrew Merilees.All other elections will be going ahead as planned. General voting day is Nov. 15, with the advance polls held Nov. 5.
