Police boat chase results in drug, immigration charges

Skidegate resident Christopher 'Sammy' Anthony Jones will be making a court appearance this week, charged with trafficking and exporting cocaine, marijuana and psylocibin.
Mr. Jones, 28, turned himself in to Queen Charlotte RCMP Sunday afternoon, after being the subject of a man hunt since Thursday June 24.
Police from the Masset detachment along with the high-speed police vessel Inkster began chasing an Alaska-bound boat before dawn Thursday, as it was leaving Masset. The boat was pursued after it attempted to avoid apprehension, then steered to shore under full throttle, beaching itself on north beach.
Three US citizens were arrested right away, but a fourth suspect jumped off the vessel and escaped.
Police seized several pounds of high-grade marijuana and a substantial quantity of cocaine and psylocibin mushrooms, with a street value estimated at $20,000.
The arrested Americans were charged with trafficking and exporting offences, and also face immigration charges as well.
The boat was seized by police.
