Police out on the water

It's beautiful weather to go fishing, but don't forget your safety equipment, or you could land a $200 fine instead of a halibut.
The Masset RCMP have resumed their marine patrols with their 24-foot aluminum boat, checking for mandatory gear such as lifejackets, flares, and bailers.
Since the regulations vary depending on size and purpose of individual boats, the RCMP recommend checking the safe boating guides, available at the Fisheries and Oceans office in Masset.
They will also be checking for operator licences, and handing out tickets to impaired boat operators.
"We will be out on the water in force," said Constable Romanchyuk, "and we're looking forward to liaising with everyone out there on the water."
