Port to apply for grant

Why do it for free when you can get a $2,400 grant?
That's what Port Clements council members are asking themselves, after learning that the federal government gives out grants to encourage municipalities to meet with neighbouring First Nations communities. The grants, of up to $2,400, are being given out through the Union of BC Municipalities.
Port Clements meets regularly with the Old Massett Village Council and the village of Masset to discuss common issues.
"We've been meeting with them at our own expense," said mayor Dale Lore. "We're nuts!"
Council members agreed to apply for a grant and start planning their next meeting Masset and Old Massett.
