Queen Charlotte tourism strategy available soon

The Queen Charlotte tourism strategy did not make it to the most recent QC council meeting, but Carolyn Hesseltine of the Visitor Information Centre says it will be on the agenda at the next council meeting Feb. 19. Islanders who attended a recent open house were told the strategy would be available after it was presented to council. But Ms Hesseltine missed the deadline to get it on the Feb. 5 agenda, she said. Work was done to add public input to the strategy after the Jan. 27 open house, she said. Ms Hesseltine said much of the discussion at that open house was to help clarify what kinds of tourism residents want. One idea is to encourage visitors to stay in town longer, by attending different events, or exploring walking areas, rather than create huge infrastructure like waterslides that will impact locals' lives.
