Rescue in Rennell Sound

The Coast Guard crew from Sandspit rescued two men early Monday morning (July 31) after they failed to return home from a fishing trip to Rennell Sound.
The men were found on a point near the entrance to Rennell Sound, said coast guard officer Paul Tasker, at 5:30 am. They had camped there after their 14-foot aluminum boat ran into engine problems.
"Their boat had broken down and they had gone ashore at a spot called Cone Head," Mr. Tasker said.
The two men, aged 75 and 65, left Sunday around noon. The Coast Guard was alerted at 11: 15 pm after they did not return home.
Mr. Tasker said two aircraft from the Canadian Forces base at Comox, a Cormorant helicopter and a Buffalo, were also involved in the search.
