Rescue operation underway at North Beach

A frantic rescue operation is going on at Towhill Beach. It started Monday morning, aimed a saving a 9 metre Humpback whale which got stuck in the sand about 2 km east of the entrance to the beach. The young whale was still alive when the photos were taken at around 11 a.m. Monday. Luckily, a heavy fog still hung over the area, but the tide was going out and high water would be 6 hours away-not until 5 pm.The Haida Nation rushed a water pump to the scene and a dedicated crew was hosing the trapped Humpback down to keep it wet and cool. Thanks to Archie Stocker for the information and the photos.
