School board supports day care plan

The school board is supporting a proposal that would see affordable and high quality day care established in BC.Trustees voted March 26 to support the "$10 a day child care plan" that was presented to them in February.Chair Elizabeth Condrotte said the proposal had been discussed and unanimously supported by the islands' early childhood development committee earlier that day.Members of the public asked a few questions about how exactly the child care plan would work. Ms Condrotte said the plan is very much in the idea stage right now, with the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC collecting support from organizations around the province including municipalities, unions and school districts. The plan calls for the province to ensure high quality and affordable child care for all families who want it. The proposed system would receive public funding and be overseen by elected school boards.
