School wins architectural award

Skidegate's Sk'aagdaa Naay Elementary School won the Lieutenant-Governor's Certificate of Merit Award from the Architectural Institute of BC last Saturday.
The school won the award for its extensive use of wood, and the participation of the two communities of Skidegate and Queen Charlotte, according to information provided by the school district. Principal Joanne Yovanovich travelled to Vancouver to receive the award last weekend on behalf of the district.
The school was designed by Acton, Johnson, Ostry Architects and completed in 1998.
