Special Assembly Monday for CHN

The Council of the Haida Nation is holding a full-day special sitting of the House of Assembly Monday (May 5) at the community hall in Masset. All Haida citizens can attend the sitting, which starts at 10 am. Vice-president Arnie Bellis said a special sitting is not an unusual occurrence, but did not have any information about why the meeting had been called. Kim Davidson recently gathered more than 100 signatures on a petition calling for a special House of Assembly and a new election. His petition alleges that there were irregularities in the December CHN election, specifically around the voters list, mail-in ballots, lack of notice to a candidate about an all-candidates forum, and information about the location of polling stations. Mr. Davidson's petition, sent to the CHN in late March, calls for the 2007 election to be declared invalid and a new election called.
