Tourism association meets Thursday

The Haida Gwaii Tourism Association (HGTA) will hold its first public meeting in many months on Thursday (Jan. 9) at the Golden Spruce Motel in Port Clements.
"We need to promote the islands. We did a fairly good job the last few years and we need to carry on. Otherwise who is going to do it?" says Urs Thomas, who will chair the meeting
In the past, the mandate of the HGTA has been to promote the islands. Mr. Thomas would like to see it work closely with the Heritage Tourism Strategy being drafted now.
Mr. Thomas says he want to see who shows up at the meeting and what direction people want to go. He hopes the association can move forward this year in a positive direction.
The association had problems in 2002, which include several unfilled director's positions, and met last in June, when members vowed they did not want to see it disappear.
Thursday's meeting starts at 7:00 pm.
