Tourism Association to meet in Masset

Submitted by Shirley Kricheldorf. The Masset Tourism Committee is hosting the Northern BC Tourism Annual General Meeting this fall. This conference will bring together major players in the tourism industry from across Northern BC, Alberta, the Yukon and Alaska as well as key tourism officials with Tourism BC, the provincial government and other organizations. It is expected that between 65 and 100 delegates will be attending the event. The conference will begin Thursday, September 25th with an "ice-breaker" reception and wrap up with a special breakfast on Sunday, September 28th. On Friday, September 26th a bus tour to several island communities is being planned to ensure the delegates get a taste of what the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii are all about. Saturday is the formal annual general meeting, an afternoon of free time and ending with the special Awards Banquet and Fundraiser Auction.
The tourism committee recommends that island businesses and other organizations join the Northern BC Tourism Association in order to take advantage of the great marketing initiatives they offer and to be eligible to attend the conference as a delegate. Check out their website at www.nbctourism.com for more information on the benefits of membership and marketing opportunities.
The steering committee is putting together an information package that will be sent to all potential delegates in mid-July. The committee would like to include information about pre- and post-convention tourism opportunities on island in order to encourage the delegates to extend their visit to the islands. Anyone wishing to include tourism brochures, tour package info or other such suitable material is asked to send such information to the Village of Masset, Tourism Committee, PO Box 68, Masset or call Paddy McPeake at 626-6049 for more information.
