Hospital Day puts on the ritz and the sunglasses, too

Queen Charlotte’s 109th Hospital Day celebrates new hospital with a ‘Putting on the Ritz’ theme.

Sunny skies and people made for a fun 109th Hospital Day in Queen Charlotte on Saturday, the first held since the opening of the new Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre/Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay.

Organizers are still counting the numbers, but the fundraising seems even stronger than last year.

Nurse Deb Miller, who recruits and trains newly graduated nurses and set up several rooms in the new hospital, was recognized as the healthcare employee of the year.

For the second year running, Linda Hanson received the most nominations for Hospital Day volunteer of the year — Hanson looked after the food, gathered auction prizes and, organizers said, “answers a million questions and always with a great smile and a hearty laugh!”
