A “Fusion” of dance, music and glittery costumes dazzled audiences seated to watch the students from Dance Academy of Prince Rupert on June 3 and 4.

The talents and skillsets of the dancers were showcased at the Lester Centre in a paired set of performances over a two-day event featuring more than 50 musical numbers and 174 dancers. Dancers ranged in age from as young as three years old, like the little astronauts, to graduating prima ballerinas headed to other studios to further their dance careers.

The theme of “Fusion” for this year’s recital was chosen to honour the joining of two city dance schools after Spectrum Dance Studio closed last year.

“The dancers displayed great camaraderie and adaptability, which made for an extremely powerful dance team,” Teresa Mackereth, the academy’s founder, said. “The team danced their way to success at every single competition.”

“It was amazing, a smooth and seamless transition, helped along by very capable teachers Kelsey Basso, Alison Sherman, Shannon Vallee, Lauren Brown, Jessica Bruce, Sarah Wholmes and Marissa Jack,” Mackereth said. “It was a wonderful year.”
