Writing on the eve of the first election for the Village of Queen Charlotte since 2011, I wanted to express my appreciation for both Alan Moore and Devin Rachar, who are running for the vacant position on village council.
Both are fine individuals who would do a great job on council over the coming year.
Good luck to you both!
It is a tough job to take a political position on island, especially as a councillor in Daajiing Giids/Queen Charlotte, where the pay is low, the issues are complex, solutions are not clear and everyone seems to have strong opinions about what’s right.
Their opinions on Haida Gwaii Radio and in the Observer demonstrate intelligence and thoughtfulness.
It is heart-warming to see youth and young adults putting themselves out there to help work on some of the challenges we all face.
Hopefully, there will be a lot more interest in the municipal and school board elections in 2018.
