The Ministry of Transportation and Transit installed two new highway cameras in northern B.C in 2024.
The camera at Augier Road at Highway 16, about 22 km east of Burns Lake, went live on Oct. 23.
"The ministry added north and south views on Highway 16, with views along Augier Forest Service Road, in addition to the previous single view at the location," said the ministry.
The Pine Pass camera at Highway 97 went live on Nov. 25. It is north of Mackenzie Junction at the access road to the Powder King Mountain Resort region. This location already had a camera but it had to be replaced as it went offline due to its components failing and replacement parts were no longer available.
Ministry crews install webcams throughout B.C.'s highways based on needs identified by residents, contractors, or weather experts. In total, DriveBC added 22 new cameras in 2024 for a total of 37 more views.
DriveBC is inviting the public to give feedback on their plans to redesign their web portal in 2025 to replace the existing website.
"The new site will include a simplified map, clearer event notification, new advisory features and better mobile usability," wrote the ministry in a press release.
