40 year old mustache may have to go

A Queen Charlotte mustache that's been flourishing for the past 40 years could be shaved right off, if the local RCMP manage to raise $2,000 for Hospital Day by the end of the month.Lindsay Doerksen said he's had a mustache for so long that he can't remember what it would be like not to have one. He thinks he started growing it around 1967 or 1969, and he said his friends can't remember ever seeing him without it.But when the RCMP asked him if he would be willing to shave it for a good cause, he said yes."$2,000 is an awful lot of money," he said. "My mustache will grow back."Const. Derrick Gladdish said all the Queen Charlotte RCMP members, except one who is away right now, are growing mustaches this month as the other part of their fundraising effort, a twist on the popular "Movember" fundraiser for prostate cancer. They are aiming to raise $2,000 by Nov. 30, and will donate it all to the local Hospital Day fund."I just started mine," Const. Gladdish said. "My wife can't stand it."Meanwhile, Mr. Doerksen said he'd like to see Christine Rowan shave his mustache if the RCMP do manage to meet their target. He said Ms Rowan owes him a razor cut from the days when she had a haircutting studio at the Premier Creek Hotel."I'll publicly challenge her to pay her debt," he said. "She should be the one to publicly eliminate the growth on my upper lip."To make a donation towards Hospital Day and the possible public shaving of Mr. Doerksen's old-growth mustache, call the Queen Charlotte RCMP at 250-559-4421.
