Accident claims life of Skidegate man

A fatal motor accident Saturday has claimed the life of a Skidegate man. Paul Bentley, 32, lost control of his vehicle on Highway 33 near Relax Road around 5 pm. He was travelling towards Skidegate, crossed the center line and hit a rock face.
He was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to hospital in Queen Charlotte, then flown to Vancouver late Saturday night. He died Sunday afternoon in hospital there.
Queen Charlotte RCMP say alcohol and speed are suspected to be contributing factors to the accident. They along with the coroner's office are continuing to investigate.
Police remind everyone that the speed limit between Queen Charlotte and Skidegate is 60 km per hour. "There are a number of children and adults who walk along this part of the highway and the speed limit needs to be obeyed," police say, adding they will be enforcing the limit in weeks to come.
