All-Islands symposium in works

Submitted by Haida Gwaii Community Futures- Symposium organizers are asking community groups to shout their successes from the rooftops. Or at the very least, share their stories with Islanders gathered for the All-Islands Symposium March 7-9.
A "Call for Participation" has gone out (See ad this issue) to Island organizations representing every sector of our communities to consider submitting a brief on their achievements, challenges and hopes and dreams for the future. These presentations will form the basis for the Saturday session (March 8th) where Islanders can expect to hear and view submissions from dozens of community groups.
Coordinator Carolyn terBorg, said that by the end of the weekend those who attend will leave with a new appreciation of what has been accomplished by local governments and community organizations on Haida Gwaii.
"The symposium will bring together everyone on the Islands to celebrate what we've done and what we've learned over the years so we can start working together from the same script," terBorg says.
Friday night (March 7th) local governments and the Council of the Haida Nation will make presentations at the school gym in Port Clements. Then the community groups will take the floor Saturday in the gym of the Charlotte high school. "Sunday, the Symposium's final day, will offer a chance for everybody to roll up their sleeves and start working on where we want to go as an islands community," says terBorg. Transportation, daycare and meals will be provided.
For registration and more information on how you can participate please call Carolyn terBorg at 626-3612 or talk to your area coordinator: Lisa at 557-9319 (Central), Alyssa at 559-4260 (South) or Elizabeth 626-3863 (North).
The Symposium is initiated by Council of the Haida Nation, Community Futures and the Gowgaia Institute with generous financial support from Western Economic Development.
