Haida Gwaii rural areas will be getting one garbage bill a year instead of four, says regional district administrator Joan Merrick.Bills will be sent out in January for the year and if users pay by the end of March they will receive a 10 percent discount. The bills must be paid in full by the end of June, or face a 10 percent penalty.Ms Merrick said this only applies to those who have received bills directly from the regional district, not customers billed by their municipalities.She said the quarterly billing was a huge amount of administrative work and a certain amount of people wrote a cheque for the entire year anyway. This way, it's not only more efficient, but the regional district can get their cash flow on track. The full bill will be $288 (that's 12 months at $24 a month) and people can save almost $29 by paying earlier.
