Another break-in in Tlell

A thief or thieves broke into the Tlell post office over the weekend, stealing the contents of at least one package and leaving the office in disarray. “The door going into the post office from the hall was smashed to bits,” said Tlell postmaster Bari Williams. “Parcels were opened and mail was taken out of boxes and scattered on the floor.” Ms Williams said while the interior door to the post office was damaged, it’s not clear how the thief gained entry to the fire hall building, where the post office is located. The break-in was discovered Monday morning (May 10), she said, and likely took place on Sunday. RCMP Sgt. Rob Knapton said police are investigating the break-in and theft, as well as another attempted break and enter at a nearby Tlell business which also took place over the weekend. Ms Williams said she was especially disturbed about the most recent incidents because another local business, Sitka Studio, suffered a break-in and theft just a few weeks ago. “It’s kind of awful this is happening in Tlell,” she said.
