Arsenic stops work on new hospital in Queen Charlotte

Site clearing work has temporarily stopped at the site of the new south-end hospital in Queen Charlotte.Site clearing, which involves removing the soil, has stopped while the soil is being tested for arsenic, said Northern Health's Jonathan Dyck. "It's a precautionary measure by Wood Building Canada to temporarily delay work while waiting for the tests to come back," he said. Arsenic is often found in soil in small concentrations. The soil was tested three years ago and was fine, said Mr. Dyck, and they are not expecting any different results this time. There's very low risk to people, he said, and the delay won't affect the project timeline.
