Friday is the big night for Islands’ artists. The Haida Gwaii all Islands Art Show is opening Friday, March 8 at 7 pm at the HG Museum in Skidegate. This year’s show features new works from 62 Islands artists. Everyone is welcome to this free exhibition of Island art. The show will run through until April 13. On the following day, Saturday, March 9, Judy Hilgemann will be giving a workshop titled “Preliminary Drawing and Composition, a Thoughtful Beginning. Judy is the adjudicator for this year’s art show. She is now from Vancouver Island but and was formerly a resident of Haida Gwaii and well-known in our local art community. The workshop is an opportunity to improve your drawing skills. As Judy explains, composition is the most important part of drawing. So bring your ideas or something you are working on and join us. This workshop can improve your basic skills for any kind of art. It is open to all adults of any skill level. It will be held at the Haida Heritage Centre in Skidegate from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. There are still a few spaces available. Cost is $50. To register for the workshop, you can sign up at the art show Friday evening or call Barb Rowsell at 559-8207. On Sunday and Monday March 10 and 11, Judy will be adjudicating the show. She will be available to give guidance and/or helpful critiques to individual artists or she can meet with a group of artists who would find it helpful to discuss their work together. You can sign up for adjudication; either in person or a written critique at the show or by calling Barb at 559-8207. Also on Sunday, March 10 at 7:00 pm there will be a slideshow of Judy’s work at the Haida Heritage Centre. There is no charge for this event. A very busy weekend for Haida Gwaii art, don’t miss out.
