Arts council changes name

The arts council is changing its name to the Haida Gwaii Arts Council. After a unanimous vote at a special meeting Nov. 14, arts council president Astrid Egger is forwarding the new name to the registrar of societies along with the $50 fee.Eleven people attended the meeting and the name change received 11 positive votes. "Now that the name Haida Gwaii has become official, it seems anachronistic to be registered as the Queen Charlotte Islands Arts Council," said Ms Egger after the vote. The proposed name change was first discussed at the arts council's AGM on Oct. 17. Ms Egger says the society's constitution and bylaws must also now be updated. She expects to hold a membership meeting in spring or summer to give members the opportunity to debate any additional changes. In other arts council news, the newly elected officers are as follows: Astrid Egger, president; Elizabeth Inkster, vice-president; Beng Favreau,Secretary Treasurer; Performing Arts Co-Directors, Elizabeth Inkster & Heather Hodge; Visual Arts Director, Betsy Cardell; Literary Arts Director, Carrie Chapple; Communications Manager, Pat Carrie Smith.
