Authors Esi Edugyan and Steven Price to visit the islands

Submitted by Pat Carrie Smith for the Haida Gwaii Arts Council-Esi Edugyan and Steven Price, partners in life and work, individually acclaimed for their literary achievements, will visit Haida Gwaii June 28-29 with their 22-month-old daughter, Cleo.Ms Edugyan is the author of Half Blood Blues, a novel that has received a lot of attention since it was published in 2011. Set in Nazi-era Germany, it won the Giller prize, was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize and was a finalist for the Governor Generals award. Her first novel, The Second Life of Samual Tyne, also received literary attention.Mr. Price, a poet and novelist, received the 2007 Gerald Lampert Award for Anatomy of Keys, a book-length poem embracing a variety of poetic and prose forms to tell the story of Harry Houdini. The book was also listed by the Globe and Mail as a Book of the Year. His recent first novel, Into That Darkness, which explores the after-effects of a fictitious massive earthquake, has received enthusiastic reviews.The Haida Gwaii Arts Council and Canada Council for the Arts, and the villages of Queen Charlotte and Port Clements will sponsor two free public readings by Esi Edugyan and Steven Price. Come to Queen Charlotte's Spirit Square on Friday, June 28 at 6:30 pm. Bring your own cushion or lawn chair - if the weather is inclement, a tent shelter will be there. You can also look for them in the afternoon on the main stage of the Canada Day celebrations in Port Clements, where they will do a second set of readings. It is summer, so we can plan these two special settings with special times so that little Cleo will not be up too late.Do join us!
