Human carelessness is causing too many wildfires in BC, says Forests Minister Pat Bell, as temperatures reached record highs last week and new fires raged in the interior."This is a concern as even one human-caused fire is too many," Mr. Bell said. "We are entering a critical period for wildfire activity in BC and fire crews must be available to manage naturally-occurring fires caused by lightning.Five fires last week were started by people burning debris, and one was caused by a campfire. The provincial government reminds the public that burning restrictions are in place across BC. Although small, contained campfires - 0.5 metres by 0.5 metres - are permitted, the public is reminded to have tools and at least eight litres of water nearby to extinguish them.
