The school board has sent a letter to the government and the teachers' union calling for both parties to meet in good faith and put an end to the two-week old strike.
The board held a special meeting Monday concerning the breakdown in labour relations between the two parties and passed a motion to write the letter addressed to Premier Gordon Campbell and BC Teachers' Federation President Jinny Sims.
"It is the board's position that the current strike action will have lasting effects on public education in our district and across the province. The attempt to resolve this impasse through legislation has aggravated this labour dispute," said school board chair Andreas Uttendorfer at the end of the two hour meeting.
The letter strongly urges the parties to meet immediately and find solution that benefit students.
"It is our belief that a consensus of both parties can be reached that will leave the dignities of both parties intact. On behalf of the students, we wish both parties courage and conviction to seek solutions to the crisis before us."
