Building our learning community

Submitted by Lorrie Joron, QCDTA pro-d committee-That's the theme for this year's annual District Professional Development Day. All district staff will be coming together at Masset's GM Dawson Secondary Friday September 26 to learn about the elements of a learning community and to share their knowledges with each other. The lead workshop
is designed to lead everyone who cares about education and schools through four processes of discovering what makes a learning community. Everyone has a role to play in supporting the growth of students- not just educators. So our goal for the day is to build up human resources as value-added assets.
After the main session, there are three small sessions where educators will be expanding their knowledge and skills in their subject areas and then focusing on literacy and numeracy through all the grades.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend the workshops. Please call GMD, 626-3226 to pre-register. Workshops are free but $15 is required to cover the cost of lunch if you wish to stay. The day begins with registration at 8:30, the lead workshop begins at 9 am sharp. Please bring your own mug, bowl, plate, and cutlery for lunch. See you there.
