Submitted by Kevin LaCroix--The annual businessmen's curling bonspiel was held this past weekend and despite gremlins in the ice making plant the event was a huge success. The ice plant cut out on both Friday and Saturday nights causing delays.
The Edwards and Associates team skipped by Harold Fleming were the grand champions defeating the All Ranks Mess team skipped by Vince Kluke in an exciting final.
The "B" event final was won by Daddy Cools Pub over a surprisingly tough O'Brien Road & Bridge team skipped by Dan Melin. In the "C" event final a very entertaining C.B.I. Fisheries team skipped by Chris Gagnon took a close decision over Haralsons Hornets skipped by Bruce{the moose} Haralson.
In the consolation final it was Marj's Cafe skipped by Kevin La Croix over a very evenly matched Graham Island Shake & Shingle team skipped by Dave (hog line) Smith. The curling club wishes to thank all businesses who sponsored teams and prizes. Team sponsors were Edwards & Associates, All Ranks Mess, Daddy Cools Pub, O'Brien Road & Bridge, O'Brien logging, C.B.I Fisheries, Marj's cafe, Graham Island Shake & Shingle (3 teams), Legion, Bruce Haralson. As this was a businessmen's (persons) bonspiel, several island businesses donated prizes, they were as follows. Omega Packing, Sears, Village of Masset, Island Bookeeping, TLC Automotive, Pearl's Restaurant, Berge's hair salon, Masset Travel, Masset Grocery, Edwards and Associates, All Ranks Mess, Daddy Cools Pub, Marj's Cafe, O'Brien Road & Bridge, O'Brien Logging, Sandpiper restaurant, Maureen La Croix, Villager Cafe. The club would like to thank all volunteers who helped with breakfast, pot luck supper and dedicated ice technicians whom without we would not have the ice. The next bonspiel is the Misty Isles Ladies March 21-23. This is always the club's most entertaining bonspiel with lots of fun for curlers and spectators alike.
