Two Masset residents, one of them a youth, have been charged with breaking and entering after cash was stolen from a Main Street restaurant.RCMP Sgt. Grant MacDonald said the Island Sunrise Cafe was broken into through the rear door sometime between the afternoon of Sunday, April 25 and the early morning of Monday, April 26. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.Three days later, police arrested a 19-year-old Masset man, who is now facing charges of break, enter and theft, and breach of probation. The next day, they arrested a 16-year-old male, who has been charged with break, enter and theft.Sgt. MacDonald said "good, old-fashioned police work" plus the assistance of a forensic identification team in Prince Rupert, was behind the arrests and charges. The adult suspect was in custody over the weekend awaiting a bail hearing set for Monday, while the teen was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in youth court next week.Sgt. MacDonald said police are continuing to investigate the break-in."This is unusual, it's the first break and enter I can recall we've had at a business in quite some time," he said.He encouraged all businesses to use surveillance cameras and motion detectors, and put double locks on doors. He also suggested that businesses take cash away at the end of the day, and post signs letting people know there is no cash on the premises.
