Close election results in new Gwaii Trust director

Tlell resident Berry Wijdeven will be the new Gwaii Trust representative for Central Graham Island, after winning a very close election Saturday. Mr. Wijdeven received 48 votes, while incumbent Jim Abbott, also from Tlell, received 45 votes. Mr. Abbott was first elected to the Gwaii Trust board in 2006 and has represented the central Graham Island community since then. Mr. Wijdeven will officially take over the position after the Gwaii Trust’s annual general meeting on Dec. 1.
