Coast Guard in Sandspit has new commanding officer

The Sandspit Coast Guard Station has a new officer-in-charge. Garry Deis just started this week, and said that there haven't been any incidents on his watch yet.
Mr. Deis said that right now the Coast Guard team is working on resupplying the mountaintop repeater sites around the islands that transmit VHF messages. They need to be refueled about once a year, he said-that's why the Coast Guard helicopters have been out so much lately.
Mr. Deis comes to this new position with experience working at relief lifeboat stations on the coast as well as on the larger Coast Guard ships.
