Cold winter possible

This winter should be a cold one as La Nina sets in.La Nina occurs when sea surface temperatures across the Pacific equator are below normal. The phenomenon often produces extreme cold but dry outbreaks, according to Mike Pigott at Accuweather. He said the winds during a La Nina year are influenced by the land, making for a colder, drier season than average. Accuweather is predicting this winter will be in the top three coldest years in 20 years for Vancouver and Victoria, where they've been having a number of years of above average temperatures. Mr. Pigott wasn't sure if the same prediction could be made for Haida Gwaii.
