Queen Charlotte Council and Skidegate Band Council intend to meet quarterly from now on. Queen Charlotte mayor Carol Kulesha said the Nov. 4 meeting between the neighbouring councils was the first of many. At the QC council meeting Nov. 15, she said the meeting had been about basic community needs and how the two villages can work together more – on files such as fire departments, animal control and more. Queen Charlotte is also interested in partnering with Skidegate to process the village’s sewage, as it is under pressure from the federal government to end discharges into Skidegate Inlet, while Skidegate has extra capacity in its sewage plant.
