Cruelty charges considered after cat killed

Masset RCMP are contemplating charges of cruelty to animals against a 20-year-old man who allegedly killed a cat outside the barracks building Saturday evening (Aug. 16).
Witnesses told police that the cat was swung by the tail, smashed against a wall and tossed into a garbage can. Police recovered the cat's body from the garbage can, said Const. Steve Trevor. It's not clear if the medium-sized, grey and white cat had an owner, he added.
The incident has left police and witnesses "shocked and disturbed", Const. Trevor said.
The young man who police believe is involved in the incident is a resident of Old Massett, and known to police, he said.
