An anonymous individual donated an astonishing $35,000 to the Queen Charlotte Islands General Hospital during Hospital Days.Hospital administrator Kerry Laidlaw said the individual presented him with a personal cheque for $35,000 on June 19. The donor wishes to remain completely anonymous, he said, adding that he would not comment whether the donor was from on-island or off or whether they were male or female.The donor asked that the money be used for medical equipment or other hospital-related "stuff" said Mr. Laidlaw.Mr. Laidlaw believes the amount may be the largest single donation to the hospital, surpassing a recent much-appreciated $25,000 donation from Flo Iverson. Although final numbers are not yet in, hospital administration assistant Marilyn Sikora says the community raised around $20,000 this year, not counting the contribution from the anonymous source.She said some of the equipment on the hospital's wish list includes a new labour and delivery bed, an exam table, and an electric lift for lab outpatients.In other Hospital Day news, the health care volunteer of the year was announced. Queen Charlotte's Astrid Egger won the award this year for her dedication not only to her mental health care position, but her hours as a Hospital Day volunteer and efforts to bring people like Dr. Gabor Mate to the islands to enrich all.Health Care employee of the year is Judy Serdolt, an LPN at the Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital. The committee chose Ms Serdolt for going above and beyond in her work, including her dedication to the gardening work with Masset's long term care patients.The winner of the Air Canada raffle was Carrie Tamblyn.
