Drug trafficking charges recommended

Masset RCMP have arrested a man, and are recommending drug trafficking charges be laid against him, after stopping a vehicle in downtown Masset Sunday evening (Jan. 24).Sgt. Grant MacDonald said police stopped the vehicle at the corner of Collison Avenue and Harrison Avenue for a Motor Vehicle Act violation. The driver ended up being arrested for possession of marijuana, he said, and a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Police are recommending trafficking charges against the man, a 64-year-old resident of Old Massett. He is scheduled to appear in court in March.The RCMP is continuing to investigate the incident. Sgt. MacDonald said the arrest is part of the detachment's effort to focus on street-level crime, crime hot spots and prolific drug and alcohol offenders, with the aim of reducing crime and promoting safe and secure communities.
