Edge of the World Music Festival rising to a new level this year

submitted by Janet Rigg-With over 25 musical acts coming to the Edge of the World Music Festival this Aug. 9-11, we've had to extend our hours! The music will begin at 3 pm on Friday, when we will be honoured to once again have the Daughters-of-the-Rivers-Gandlee Gujaalang Dancers of Masset opening three days of amazing music. We will also be starting early on Saturday and Sunday, just so we can fit it all in!Our constitution and bylaws reads the following:ARTICLE 2 The purposes of the society are:a)To provide support and opportunities for the exposure and growth of local musicians. b)To provide eclectic musical experiences for the islands communities. c)To have fun while doing (a) and (b).This year we've brought our mandate to a new level. First, we have The Boom Booms featuring the words of Ta'Kaiya Blaney, an incredible young woman dedicated to raising her voice to save land and culture. Also in the line-up: the foot stomping sounds of Shred Kelly, The Queen of Loops and cultural ambassador from New Zealand - Mihirangi, and electro-folk renegade T.Nile. But that's jus the beginning. We have Jasper Sloan Yip, Mip Power Trio, Flowshine, and Ssssnap rounding out our featured artists. Then we have an enormous selection of off-island guests, talented musicians that just come for our hospitality and the experience of Haida Gwaii. There's 18 of them coming this year, 18 unique acts ranging from indie-folk to rock 'n' roll. Finally, 14 local acts round out this phenomenal line-up, old favourites and new acts with Drive In headlining. With this much talent coming to perform, there will be little time for repeat performances, so get your weekend pass, camp nearby, and don't miss a thing!Check out our website, www.edgefestival.com, to see our whole line-up and schedule. Elizabeth was a talented singer and a gifted weaver. Look forward to honouring her in creative and unique ways all weekend long! Additionally, half of our loonie toonie proceeds will go towards supporting the Music and Arts Bursary in her honour.
